Leilani at 30 Weeks

It started out in an innocent way.  A little peanut butter on a cracker, Sandy Dog Biscuit or slice of banana.  Now it is fair to say that Leilani is obsessed with peanut butter.  Hopefully she won't have to join PBA, Peanut Butter Anonymous!

No, she did not eat all the peanut butter in this jar of Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter but she could have, with a few breaks to unglue her tongue from the roof of her mouth.   We used to wash an "empty" peanut butter jar before putting it in the recycling bin.  Now we let Leilani lick it clean.  It takes her about fifteen minutes of focused effort to get all the peanut butter that her tongue can reach.  She is very good at holding and rotating the jar with her two front paws.

Her favorite after beach treat is a Vibrac Hextra Chew, with a schmear of peanut butter.

Mmm tasty!

Leilani at 29 Weeks

Some days Percy starts the morning early by jumping up on the bed next to my head.  For the past few days he licks his fur for a few moments before he jumps off the bed to throw up.  Ah, what a way to start the day!

After cleaning up the mess, it is time to make coffee and prepare breakfast for Leilani.  We could go to the beach early, but a flashlight does not seem to fit the Lanikai beach dress code.

So, Leilani waits until it is just light enough to see our way down the staircase (53 steps if you are counting) to the street on the way to the beach.

Once we get to the beach, I check to see if anyone would be offended by a wet and sandy puppy.  Most of the time, the coast is clear and I let her off the leash and she runs for the water.  Its a dog's life, someone has to live it!

Leilani at 28 Weeks

Number four on Leilani's list of five favorite things she plans to do when Bo Obama comes to visit is watch birds from the deck at lanikai green house.

The best time to watch birds is either early morning or late afternoon.  The regular birds include:
  • the Red-vented Bulbul, which is included among the world's worst invasive species,
  • the Zebra Dove, one of the most abundant birds in Hawaii,
  • the Spotted Dove, sometimes known as the Chinese Turtle-Dove and
  • the Common Myna, which is very vocal and sometimes kept as a pet due to their "speaking" ability.
This time of year we also have:
So, Bo, the birds are waiting for you!

Leilani at 27 Weeks

Now that the Obama family has left Kailua we can reveal a secret.  Bo did come to Hawaii and had a play date with Leilani.

Well, not really... but Faux Bo did!

Next year Leilani will invite Bo to do some of her favorite things:
  1. Go to Lanikai Beach, chase sticks and go swimming in the warm Pacific Ocean.
  2. Eat Sandy Dog Biscuits.
  3. Walk the loop in Lanikai.
  4. Watch the birds from the deck at lanikai green house.
  5. Chew fresh coconuts.
Live aloha!

    Leilani at 26 Weeks

Leilani has been with us for 20 weeks.  When she first arrived she was so small.  Look at her first portrait that we posted on our lanikai green house website.  It was easy to pick her up and hold her.  Now I have to be careful not to throw out my back when I pick her up.

At first she was nearly all black. Her fur has changed colors and reveals more of her German Shepherd heritage.  Look at her legs and paws, she is still growing.

She is going to be a Big Dog! Some say "Big Dogs Rule"!
